Ten reasons to watch Raavanan

1. For Mani Ratnam fans, this one is reason enough, but for you sceptics out there, here are nine more!

2. If you thought Iruvar, Roja and Bombay were Mani Ratnam's best, Raavan/ Raavanan is going to stun you! Says who? Just about everybody who has worked for the project! "Mani Ratnam has made this film like a penance. Mani Ratnam, Vikram and Aishwarya Rai will definitely get National Awards," said lyricist Vairamuthu.

3. Mani Ratnam's Raavanan is also special for its huge star cast: Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Prithviraj, Karthik, Prabhu, Priyamani, Munna, John Vijay in Tamil and Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Govinda, Ravikissen, Priyamani, Nikhil Dwivedi in Hindi (Raavan).

4. Most parts of the movie were shot in deep interiors of dense forests. Our hero plays a tribal chief!

5. Shyam Kaushal has choreographed the thrilling climax fight. "The shooting for Raavan began in January 2009 in Kolkata, then Ooty, and the climax was shot on Malsej Ghat, where there's a scene on bridges 2,000 feet above mountains. Mani loves challenges and likes challenging his actors and technicians too. His quest for perfection puts them through a grueling routine," he said.

6. For the first time, Vikram simultaneously plays two diametrically different roles in two languages of the same film. Vikram play the role of Dev (Ram) in Hindi and Beera (Raavan) in Tamil.

7. Aishwarya plays the role of Ragini, a spunky classical dance teacher. The first look of the movie shows her dancing gracefully in a song.

8. Interestingly, Aishwarya Rai will dub in her own voice for the Tamil version while Vikram is all set to speak Hindi in Raavan.

9. Another highlight is Prabhu and Karthi, co-stars in the blockbuster Mani Ratnam movie Agni Natchathiram, they team up again for the same director after a long gap.

10. A.R. Rahman's chart-busters, Vairamuthu's adorable lyrics, Santhosh Sivan's marvellous camera work and to top of all, 'The Mani Ratnam factor'. Well Raavanan is definitely one of the most-anticipated films of the year. So get ready for some action this Friday (June 18, 2010).

Mani Ratnam has carved a movie titled as Raavan (Hindi) which is also going o release in Tamil with the name Raavanan (Tamil). The same movie will be dubbed into Telugu with the name of Villan and will be releasing on June 18, 2010. Suhasini Mani ratnam will be receiving an award at Venice Film fest, on behalf of her hubby, for excellence in Indian cinema.
The movie features actor Vikram, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead in the Hindi version. While the Tamil- Telugu version will have actor Vikram, Prithviraj and Ash in he lead. Here is the storyline of Raavan, Raavanan and Villan.
Story
Raavan (Vikram) has a sister (Priyamani), whom he loves immensely and pampers her a lot, as they have no elders. Incidentally, Ram (Prithvi Raj – Abhishek Bachchan in Hindi) kills Raavan’s sister due to a cause and a reason.
Raavan decides to seek revenge on Ram and so waits for the right moment to strike. Ram is in love with Sita (Aishwarya) and marries her against his parent’s blessings. Raavan kidnaps Sita on the first night of ram and Sita and takes her to his abode, which is in the forest.
Due to some incidents and the past of Raavan, Sita falls in love with Raavan. Meanwhile, Ram discovers Raavan’s hiding and fights and defeats him to take his Sita back home. But Sita doesn’t want to go back to Ram as she falls in love with Raavan deeply.
Mani Ratnam’s Raavan or Raavanan is inspired by the ‘Ashokavanam’ parva of Indian epic Ramayana. So, the characters are named and are lined up parallel to the Ramayana epic.

SINGAM SONGS DOWNLOAD

SINGAM MOVIE REVIEW Review by : Behindwoods review board Starring: Suriya, Anushka, Prakash Raj, Vivek, Manoramma.Direction: HariMusic: Devi Sri PrasadProduction: BIG Pictures The much-awaited Hari-Suriya combo is back in this landmark 25th film of Suriya. The story was initially narrated to Vijay for his 50th film by Hari but for some reasons Vijay could not do it and Suriya lapped it up.
Throughout the career graph of Suriya, the actor has diligently worked towards balancing the niche and the mass and this time around he has proven once again that he can deliver a commercial masala flick with as finesse as he can deliver a performance-oriented film. It is Suriya all over; the guy stumps with some gravity defying stunts, mouths a few intense sentimental dialogues, floors his lady partner passionately and challenges the baddies and cleanses the society from obnoxious elements.
Durai Singam is the SI of Nallur police station who is into the police force mainly to satisfy his father. His ambition is to expand his provision stores business to a super market. All the same, he is sincere in his work and is the darling of his town as he settles many disputes in his town amicably. Mayilvaganan (Prakash Raj), the fraudster from Chennai, involved in criminal activities, gets trapped into a police case which requires him to sign in Nallur police station for a period of 15 days. There is a proxy who comes to do this job in the police station which triggers an encounter between Prakash Raj and Suriya that leads into a series of events between the two which form the rest of Singam.
Meanwhile, an offshoot of this plot is the love angle between Anushka and Suriya, the former comes to the village to her grand parents place for vacation and bumps in to the latter. Thankfully, it is not love at the second meeting but something that happens gradually with believable events.
Vivek as Erimalai takes charge of comedy in Singam as Suriya’s subordinate and acquits himself well. The comedy scenes do bring the intended effect and the lorry scene which results in Vivek’s suspension tops the list. There are many such enjoyable instances which are sure to get into the comedy channels soon.
Anushka looks good and acts too. When she is on the phone with Suriya and gets caught by her father Nasser, the instant play of expression to get out of the situation is noteworthy. The lady does have a good future. She rides on twin horses with glamorous costumes in the song sequences and a homely demeanor in the rest of the film. Radha Ravi and Sumithra as the parents of Suriya do a convincing job. The other supporting cast members are satisfactory.
Music by Devi Sri Prasad is nothing to rave about except the En Idhayam number. However, the morphing technique adopted to cover a few frames in this number is unwarranted. Background score is also ordinary. True to the name Singam, the film is dominated by action sequences but there is no blood and gore. Cinematographer Priyan has done a decent job.
Director Hari has stuck to his genre and has delivered a crisp film. Although the events and the premise are not something new in Singam and the formula of one scene each of ‘action-romance-sentiments-comedy', is strictly adhered to, he should be credited for rendering an engaging and entertaining product. He succeeds in holding the interest of the audience to a larger extent and satisfies the viewers.
However, in the second half, the interactions between the villain and hero get a bit drab and seem to drag on. There is not much of an intelligence displayed by the villain to counter the hero except in the climax. On the whole, Hari has concocted and packaged his masala contents in the right proportion and has served a tasty dish.
Verdict: Engaging masala

PEN SINGAM MOVIE REVIEW

PEN SINGAM MOVIE REVIEW Review by : Behindwoods review board Starring: Uday Kiran, Meera Jasmine, Karthiga.Direction: Bali SrirangamMusic: IlayarajaProduction: J Nandini Arts Kalaignar handling the script and dialogues of the film itself makes it special and evinces a lot of interest. It is quite amazing that he is up to the task of scripting a full length feature film even on his 87th birthday. The title of the film suggests that unlike the normal Kollywood fare, this will definitely offer the female characters scope to perform. And, with any Kalaignar script, the dialogues would certainly be a highlight and we expect some really well written lines throughout the film.
Pen Singam is the story of Udhay Kiran and Meera Jasmine. The former is a forest officer while the latter is in a clerical post in his office. Both of them fall in love. Udhay Kiran is also in full support of Meera Jasmine’s ambition of becoming an IPS officer and she ultimately achieves her aim. Meanwhile, the forest mafia is in full swing, smuggling sandalwood and the leader of this gang is Radha Ravi. Obviously, the paths of Radha Ravi and Udhay Kiran cross while the latter is on duty and they cross swords. The smugglers mark him as their prime enemy and are on the lookout for a way to get rid of him. This is when Richard (Udhay Kiran’s college friend)comes into the picture. At first, he appears to the principled and righteous youngster who wouldn’t take an immoral step. And, impressed by these traits of his, Dharshana Sen falls in love and they decide to get married. But, very close to the marriage Richard’s true face is revealed. But, a few reconciliations later, the marriage takes place. But, things can never be the same again. And, Udhay Kiran who was involved in arranging Richard’s marriage feels enraged at this sudden change in character. But, Richard is now already a part of Radha Ravi’s schemes. In the ensuing events, Dharshana Sen is killed and Udhay Kiran finds himself behind bars. This is where Meera Jasmine (now an IPS officer) takes over and has to find a way to get Udhay Kiran acquitted. Rohini, Udhay Kiran’s mother is a judge. She resigns her post to be her son’s counsel. How the duo help in proving Udhay Kiran’s innocence is the crux of the film.
The script has got many twists and turns to keep viewers interested. But, it is not as contemporary as one would have liked it to be. Though taut for most parts, there are a couple of major loopholes in the script; especially the point where Dharshana Sen decides to go ahead with the marriage to Richard even after getting a clear inkling of his intentions. But, that apart the script maintains a consistent tenor throughout the length of the film. But, comedy by Vivek is a major hampering to the proceedings. It has absolutely no value and ends up just as an irritating interspersion.
Udhay Kiran is convincing in his portrayal as the forest officer. Radha Ravi is his usual menacing self, but there is nothing new in his role; something we have seen him do umpteen number of times. Richard is not up to the mark with his villainy. In spite of quite a few years in the industry, his acting skills remain pretty rudimentary. Meera Jasmine does well as the ‘Pen Singam’. But, her role does not seem to have as much weight and substance as the title might suggest.
There are only a couple of scenes where she gets to go into top gear. Rohini is mature and strong in her portrayal. Rambha appears in a small but very significant cameo and fits the bill.
Technically, Pen Singam does not have much that stands out. Music by Deva just about passes muster with nothing out of the ordinary. The lyrics, by five different poets including Kalaignar himself are not the usual ‘jingle’ type stuff that we get these days. Dialogues, the highlight of any Kalaignar script, catch the imagination at places, though not always.
Overall, Pen Singam has got a pretty neat script, which holds one’s attention, but lacks in contemporary value. A couple of holes in the script, a weak and meaningless comedy track and lackluster music come in the way of the Pen Singam’s roar.
Verdict: Kalaignar: still good but not vintage
